Overview
The Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, Kyambogo University, Uganda in partnership with The Norwegian Association of Disabled and other partners will host the 1st East African Conference on Disability Inclusive Higher Education under the theme: ‘’Universities of All and for All: Innovative and Transformative Strategies for Disability Inclusion in Higher Education’’ from November 10th – 12th, 2024 at Kyambogo University, Kampala, Uganda. The organizing Committee is now inviting abstracts for paper and poster presentations as per the guidelines below:
Subthemes: Abstracts can be prepared on any of the following subthemes
- Higher education policies and legal landscape (sub-regional, national and institutional): inclusiveness, practice/implementation issues, best practices, barriers, facilitators and future directions.
- Curriculum, teaching, assessment, reasonable accommodation and the right to inclusive higher education.
- Disability support services in high education.
- Rehabilitation, assistive technologies, artificial intelligence and inclusion.
- Transition to work, and lifelong learning opportunities in higher education.
- Research partnerships/collaborations, entrepreneurial scholarship and grant winning/management.
- Innovative, transformative and inclusive higher education leadership and change management strategies.
Guidelines for Preparing Abstracts
- The abstract should be between 200 – 250 words excluding the title, details of the author(s), and institutional affiliation. Abstracts should be submitted as a one-page, single-spaced Microsoft Word document. The abstract should summarize the purpose, methodology, and implications of your research as a concise description. The title should be at the top of the abstract in bold font followed by a complete list of authors including relevant qualifications and institutions of affiliation. Presenting author(s) should be identified with an asterisk (*). The deadline for submission of abstracts is August 11Th, 2024. Abstracts should be submitted by email to fsnrkyu@kyu.ac.ug copied to ngaka@kyu.ac.ug and msumani@kyu.ac.ug Authors shall be notified by August 25th, 2024 of their abstract decision. Authors who wish to have their papers published in an upcoming journal should send their full papers by October 15th, 2024.
Guidelines for Designing Poster Presentations
- Poster size may be no more than 4 feet by 3 feet (i.e., length is no more than 4 feet, and the width is no more than 3 feet).
- All text material should be legible from about 4 feet away.
- Text font should not be less than 14 points.
- Posters should include text and graphics and use colour to add emphasis and clarity.
- Illustrations should be simple and bold, and photos should clearly show pertinent details.
- Displayed materials should be self-explanatory and should enhance the verbal presentation and discussion.
- Speak clearly and loud enough for observers to hear you.
Guidelines for Papers
- Papers to be presented are in two categories i.e. short and regular. Short papers typically range from 4,000 – 6,000 words. These concise papers often focus on a specific aspect of a broader research project. Regular papers usually vary between 6,000 – 10,000 words. These provide a more comprehensive exploration of research, including methodology, results, and discussion. The papers should be from empirical research or best-practice-related papers.
- All papers submitted should be in Microsoft Word, written in font type- Times New Roman, with Font size 12 points, and 1.5 points line spacing.
- The referencing style should be APA 7th Edition.
