Kyambogo University’s Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation (FSNR) proudly stands as a key partner in the 7th Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) / Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) Africa Conference. Scheduled to be held from September 9th to 12th, 2024, at Entebbe, Uganda, this prestigious event marks a significant milestone in the realm of disability-inclusive development.
Organized by the CBR Africa Network (CAN) and hosted by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), the conference brings together a diverse group of stakeholders. This includes persons with disabilities and their carers, policymakers, government officials, advocates, researchers, practitioners, development partners, and representatives from organizations advocating for persons with disabilities across Africa and beyond.
The 7th CBR/CBID Africa Conference is set to be a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas on advancing community-based approaches to disability inclusion. The conference theme, “Advancing Community Based Rehabilitation/Community Based Inclusive Development for a Disability Inclusive Society,” underscores the commitment to innovative and transformative strategies aimed at creating inclusive communities.
The timing of this conference is particularly noteworthy. It commemorates three significant milestones: the 46th anniversary of CBR’s role in enhancing the participation and well-being of persons with disabilities, the return of the CBR conference to Uganda where CAN was founded in 2001, and the 23rd anniversary of CAN’s contributions to CBR/CBID information sharing and networking across Africa.
The event will feature over 54 speakers and 70 workshops, providing a comprehensive exploration of the field. Kyambogo University’s FSNR is actively involved in this conference, with key contributions from faculty members such as Mrs. Carolyne Sserunkuma Maholo, the Treasurer of CBR Africa Network, and Agnes Nampeera, a Master of Disability Studies and Inclusive Development student, who also serves as the Lead Coordinator for the CBR/CBID conference at the MGLSD.
Attendees can look forward to engaging academic presentations and practical insights on Community Based Rehabilitation and Inclusive Development in Uganda. For more information on the conference, visit CBR Africa Network.
