Mrs. Carolyne Maholo Sserunkuma
Biography:
Ms. Carolyne Maholo Ssserunkuma is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Community and Disability Studies at Kyambogo University, Uganda. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Disability Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her research focuses on the effectiveness of Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) using an intersectional approach to address the social determinants of health for people affected by leprosy in Uganda’s West Nile Sub-Region. She holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies, a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation, and a Bachelor of Arts in Arts.
Ms. Maholo is a rehabilitation and inclusive development practitioner with over twenty years of experience in designing postgraduate, bachelor’s, diploma, and certificate programs in disability, rehabilitation, and inclusive development. She has worked with various educational institutions and civil society organizations in Uganda and other parts of Africa, including at the governmental level. She has extensive experience teaching courses on disability, rehabilitation, inclusive program development, disaster management, human diversity, equity, and social justice.
Carolyne has undertaken numerous consultancies, developed and reviewed academic programs, and led research and evaluation projects on disability, rehabilitation, inclusive program development, disaster management, social protection, and community-based inclusive development in East and West Africa. She currently serves as the Executive Treasurer of the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Africa Network, a continental NGO promoting information sharing on innovations and best practices in disability, rehabilitation, and inclusive development in Africa and globally. She is also an Executive member of the CBR Global Network, where she facilitates collaboration among stakeholders to enhance service provision for vulnerable individuals.
