Biography:

Mr. Mukhwana Michael is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Visual Impairment Studies, Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, Kyambogo University, Uganda. Michael joined the faculty as a staff member after working for 13 years as a practicing teacher. He began teaching in the then Department of Special Needs Studies as a Graduate Fellow in 2017 until 2021 when he was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the new Department of Visual Impairment Studies. Michael is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, India. His proposed research topic is “The Role of Assistive Technologies in Enhancing Teaching-learning Science Education for Students with Visual Impairment in Lower Secondary Schools in Uganda”. His research interest is focused on inclusive education for learners with visual impairment, assistive technologies for teaching and learning for persons with visual impairment, auxiliary services for the rehabilitation of persons with visual impairment, and empowerment of persons with visual impairment in communities. Michael, has a strong professional background in Special Needs Education Studies with a Master of Special Needs Education as well as a Bachelor and Diploma in the same field from Kyambogo University, Uganda.
