Biography:
Mukasa Joseph is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Community and Disability Studies, Kyambogo University, Uganda. He’s currently a Ph.D. student in Disability Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. His thesis focuses on “Disability Inclusive Local Government Development Planning and Implementation: Exploring the Inclusion of Youth with Disabilities in South Western Uganda”.
Joseph has held other responsibilities as examination and timetable coordinator in the department. He was a graduate fellow under Kyambogo University Graduate Fellowship where he was a teaching assistant for four (4) years in the department. Previously, Joseph had worked in the department as a part-time teaching assistant, after completing his Bachelor of Social Work and Community Development degree in the same department.
He has a Master of Arts in Social Sector Planning and Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation, and a Certificate in Administrative Law. Mr. Mukasa is an experienced community development practitioner, having worked as a Community Development Officer under Uganda’s Lower Local Government.
His research interests are focused on the social constructivism research paradigm and qualitative research on financial inclusion, inclusive entrepreneurship and employment, child welfare and protection, social gerontology, physical accessibility audit, disability inclusive community development, and community-based rehabilitation. He has supervised several students in these research areas and is passionate about working with vulnerable persons, especially persons with disabilities, children, and older persons.
His passion for inclusive community development and nurturing young people for community service is evident in his voluntary roles as a founder member of the Centre for Mental Health Initiative Uganda and a Patron of the Community Development and Social Justice Students’ Association at Kyambogo University.
