Biography:

Mr. Bugohe Peter is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Visual Impairment Studies, Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, Kyambogo University, Uganda. He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Special Needs Education at Kyambogo University, and his research focuses on “Preparedness of science teachers to teach general science to students with visual impairment: A case of selected secondary schools in eastern Uganda.”

Peter started his university teaching career as a part-time lecturer, working for four (4) years between 2013 and 2016 in the then Department of Special Needs Studies (SNS) in the faculty. He was later appointed in 2017 to a full-time teaching position as a graduate fellow, where he worked for another four (4) years until 2021 when he became an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Visual Impairment Studies.

His research interests are focused on inclusive teaching and learning for students with visual impairment in science subjects, assistive technologies for teaching and learning for persons with visual impairment, and policy studies and implications on the education of persons with visual impairment. He specializes in visual impairment studies and has supervised several undergraduate students in these research areas and specialties.

Peter has a Master of Special Needs Education, a Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education, and a Diploma in Special Needs Education, all from Kyambogo University. Peter has provided technical support to the National Curriculum Development Centre in the production of Braille materials and has also worked with different organizations such as World Vision, Save the Children, Kampala Capital City Authority, Uganda National Examination Board, and Uganda National Association of the Blind, among others, as a facilitator in the training of stakeholders, including but not limited to personal assistants to persons with visual impairment, teachers, and school management committee members.
