The department of Visual Impairment Studies has specialized staff who offer various cost-effective technical support services and training to persons with visual impairment and caregivers to enable independent living, inclusion and participation of persons with visual impairment.
- Educational software: Our staff offer training, installation and updating services on audio devices / aids such as talking books, mobile phone Apps, Job Access with Speech (JAWS) software needed to teaching and learning of person with disabilities.
- Braille Proficiency Course: The department is offering a three (3) months short-course certificate course of proficiency in Braille offered three times a year.
- Visual Impairment Assessment: We provide visual assessment and recommendations for visual aids / devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, magnifiers, white canes for either sight recovery or enhancing better vison or alternative communication.
- White Cane Production: We make new and repair old white canes, and provide referral for purchase of quality and affordable white canes for persons with visual impairments.
- Mobility Independence Training: We offer independent travel training for Persons with visual impairment, Personal Assistants, parents, and caregivers on an individual basis and in groups in communities.
- Visual Assistive Devices and Technologies: Our staff provide visual impairment assessment and mobility rehabilitation needs of persons with visual impairments, recommends and provide referrals for appropriate devices and technologies.
